A Vow And a Vote of Thanks

Image
Power of Prayer - A Series By Allana Austin Two - Part Two: A vow and a vote of thanks   1 Samuel 2: 1-10 Hannah’s gratitude Do you remember me? “I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord.” Many times I came to you weeping, my countenance extremely sad and my frame weak, but “For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of Him.” [1 Samuel 1:25 – 26] Now I stand before you in jubilance, “My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.” [1 Samuel 2:1] You have raised my position in the eyes of my family, and my community. In giving me this child, you have removed reproach from me, and increased my wealth. Hannah could not have borne or birthed this child, Samuel, if she was not perseverant in her prayers. And now she had returned unto the Lord to express heartfelt gratitude! Prayer of Imprecation “And she vowed a vow and said, O LORD ...

Personal Testimony - Dark Clouds, Stormy Clouds, At Last, Sunshine

By Elide Richard                                                                                                                                [Actual Crash Photo ] My name is Elide Richard and I will be sharing my testimony today. About two and a half years ago God saved my life; I was lost spiritually, I was down-and-out financially, and the pressure of being a college student was certainly getting to me. I once had a friend who told me, “In life you are either in a storm, leaving a storm or on your way to a storm”; I was in the midst of my storm. Towards the latter part of August 2015 I was experiencing difficulty in life that I’m sure you all could relate to, i...

Are You Prepared to Sustain This Lie?

Image
By Nastassia Newell Recently in Japan, a company called Rent-a-Family has emerged. This business allows anyone to rent an actor that will pretend to be a father, mother, wife, husband or any essential role that an individual may feel is lacking in their lives. These roles can go on indefinitely as long as one is willing to pay for the services and sustain the lie. The founder of the company, Ishii Yuichi , gave a startling statement in an interview, as he spoke about being hired to act as a father to a girl, a role he has been playing for twelve years. The interviewer posed this question; “How do you think she would feel if she discovered the truth?” Yuichi responded by making this statement; “I think she would be shocked, if the client never reveals the truth I must continue playing the role indefinitely. If the daughter gets married, I have to assume my role as a father in that wedding, and then I have to be the grandfather. So, I always ask every client, “Are you prepared to s...

Only God Can Judge Me

By: Steph Neres People overuse this phrase to keep others from talking to them about things that they are doing wrong. And oftentimes, the advisers (me and you), we get tired of it. Although I really want to talk about people who love to use this phrase, today we will talk to the advisers. The battle with self is the greatest one. It almost seems like we wish to lose not one chance to make ourselves look good. In the case of advisers, it comes like this: We want to tell our friends about their faults so that they can recognize that there is a right way. This all sounds so amazing but most of the times, our motives are purely selfish. I will say this clearly that the reason that we bring others down is so that we can seem to be better. Example: We would tell a man that he dresses poorly. Why? Simply because we have a standard of how to dress in mind. And our way is “OBVIOUSLY” the right way. The fact that we focus on our works to be saved, we seem to think that our way is the w...

A Grand Deception

Image
By Ric Neres       15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. (Matthew 7:15)   Deception does not need to use any truth for it to work, only an appearance of the truth. Why do I say that? As I look at the increasing immorality in the land, I ask myself how are the people deceived in a country such as the United States of America, where the Bible is so readily available? As I looked closely, I began to see; we need more than the Bible in order not to be deceived. This is why I say that: Homosexuality             The Bible is clear that homosexuality is an abomination unto the Lord (Leviticus 18:22). Once upon a time, modern society believed it so. But in a few short years, with the concerted effort by some deceived people, lo and behold, homosexuality is sweeping the world like wildfire. Now, that in its self is trou...

Hannah Prays For a Son

Power of Prayer - A Series By Allana Austin Two - Part one: Hannah prays for a son   I Samuel 1:1-20 A Profile of Hannah A woman’s honor was directly related to her ability to produce children, … and our dear Hannah was barren. Of Elkanah’s two wives, Hannah was first and favorite [1 Samuel 1:5], but the position she held in her home and husband’s heart did nothing to console her [1 Samuel 1:8]. Elkanah’s decision to take another wife was motivated by his desire to continue his lineage, and a lack of faith in God. This decision would disturb the harmony of the home. Peninnah, the second wife, had sons and daughters [1 Samuel 1:4], and would often torment Hannah because she was barren [1 Samuel 1:6]. The Bible says Hannah’s circumstances made her bitter and sorrowful, and that the matter caused her to weep, and not to eat. In spite of all that Hannah is characterized as “the woman of prayer and self-sacrifice and heavenly inspiration”. (Patriarchs a...

Praying For Others

Image
By Smana Petit-Frere WHY SHOULD WE PRAY FOR OTHERS:   Praying for others benefits both the intercessor and the one for whom you are interceding for. ( Job 42:10 )   Some, who are still on the right path today, are only there because of the prayers of their parents, church family, or a friend. ( Genesis 27:28,29 )   Jesus while on earth spent hours interceding on behalf of others. Everything Jesus did was rooted in His love for mankind. Therefore, to love like Jesus, we must pray for others like Jesus. I know that it can be difficult to pray for longer than a few minutes, many share that struggle. This can be caused by any number of reasons, could one of those reasons be that we are not taking the time to pray for others? Your prayers are not supposed to be only about “I”, look at the Lord’s Prayer; it is all about “us” and “our”. ( Matthew 6:9-13 ) When praying for others and not focusing on your own wants and needs … time flies! WHAT DO WE PRAY FOR: F...
