FAITH
BY SMANA PETIT FRERE
Truth is established on two or three witnesses (2
Corinthians 13:1). When the Bible mentions something more than once, it is of
utmost importance to pay attention. In these following verses, faith is
particularly highlighted:
“I tell you that
he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he
find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
“But without faith [it is] impossible to
please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he
is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
“Behold, his soul [which] is lifted up is
not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.” (Habakkuk
2:4)
“For
therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is
written, The just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17)
The just is commanded, not suggested,
to live by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says that it is impossible to please Him
without faith. Leading us to ask
these pivotal but necessary questions:
What is FAITH and how do we obtain it?
WHAT IS FAITH:
“Now faith is
the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
HOW TO OBTAIN IT:
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and
hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
“For by grace are ye saved through
faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest
any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
This faith is not obtained by signs and tokens, but bravely believing
wholeheartedly! A firm form of faith arises out of assured knowledge of the Word
of God. This faith comes by growth in grace and is the faith that Christ imputes
in men who know Him. Therefore, we must read the Word of God, because from it He speaks to us.
Brothers and sisters, this touch of faith is not the
casual touch of the careless person that goes to church, sings the hymns, puts
money in the offering plate, and then forgets all about it as soon as the last
song is sung. That is not faith! Faith is when you haven’t received the
promises of God, but you hold on fast to His Words. “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having
seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and
confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” (Hebrews
11:13)
On whom do you rely for your faith? Others, or Jesus?
Find a quiet place to pray and ask Jesus to allow you to have a deep and
powerful relationship with him. By continuing to pray daily Christ will put his
faith in you and keep you from falling.
