EVER RUNNING

By: Steph Neres

Have you ever been deceived? Or do you think you are deceived about God? I know that most eager Christians will say that they are not deceived because they know who God is. But along the years, I have come to understand that we make up a lot of misconceptions about God and His character. We tend to think that God is who we depict in our heads. But, we fail to realize that God is not our imagination, He is REAL as real can be and He has distinct characters. (Exodus 34:5-8)
A lot of us tend to think that when we perceive something is Good, it could be connected to God. For example, we may enjoy pop music and we think that we can remove the "worldliness" of pop to make "gospel pop". This is one way that we deceive ourselves. There are also some abominable practices that we want to honor in God's name and among them is sexual immorality. While the bible is clear on the subject of homosexuality, we want to make it acceptable in our churches by performing marriages for these couples (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). We baptize worldly things to make them "godly".
The thing with deception is that it is difficult to come out of and when we are finally delivered, our thoughts can be so scrambled-worse, we can be extremely upset. This is a thing that is constantly happening in a christian's life though. The closer and closer we get to God, the more we are seeing how we're deceived and we get to an even deeper relationship.
Many of us when we face truth, we tend to try to do them to please God but our righteousness will never be enough and the more and more we try, the more and more we will be doubtful of our assurance in HIM (Isaiah 64:6). Unless of course, we deceive ourselves to think that we're doing well.

Next to you is a short poem that will show you an idea of how it is like when we approach God on our own strength.

"I woke up, shaken.
Wrecked but enlightened...
Trembling as if a shot of adrenaline
Should I fight or should I flight?

I crawl, convinced
Facing difficulties but ascertained
With each step, more tired
My eyes are fixed PLUS I'm inspired

I stand, erected
Anchored and collected
Stronger than ever but worn out
I'm grinning but not burning out

I walk, determined...
Pushing...
Broken, Burdened...
Crying.
