A True Christian Home

By Edriss Perjuste

Today’s Society: In the world that we live today, society has deteriorated to the point where men have taken on the custom of Satan rather than God. That is why we have so much evil in the world, wars left and right, divorce rates at an all time high, sexual immorality, and more youth are becoming more violent committing all types of crimes. There needs to be a change and it all starts at home.
The Home Atmosphere: The home is often regarded as simply a habitable place, somewhere to go to lie down after a long stressful day. There is a saying I hear people say all the time referring to their home “I’m going to go into my cave”. The home is much more than just a habitable place or a cave; the home should be like a little piece of heaven on earth where love, joy, happiness and God’s principles are cultivated. The atmosphere of the home should be where the spirit of God dwells, it should be peaceful; it should be welcoming, love should be felt there and it should be a place to find refuge.
Parent’s Role at Home: Parents create the atmosphere of the home circle; parents should, in their words and deportment toward each other, give to the children a precious living example of what they desire them to be. Purity in speech and true Christian courtesy should be constantly in practice. Teach the children the ways of God, to be true to him, obey him and, teach them to respect themselves. By teaching them the laws of God, parents are instilling in them principles that will control their lives and also how they interact with others. Parents are to pray with children every day showing them how to communicate with God effectively. Teach the children to have temperance in all things and not to allow passion to control them. Fathers and mothers should exhibit the fruit of the spirit in the home which is; love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. (Galatians 5:22-23) .
Make Home a Happy Place: when true love through Christ is practiced in the home, happiness is always the result. The home should always be a happy place; it should be the place where both children and parents are happy to come to. There should be no strife in the home; it is gentleness and peace that should be desired there. Every home should be a place of love, a place where the angels of God abide, working with softening, subduing influence upon the hearts of parents and children leading them towards Christ. Everything should be done with love and care, bearing each other in mind so that the spirit of God can continue to dwell in the home. In 2 Corinthians 3:17 the bible says where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. It is the responsibility of the parents to make sure the atmosphere of the home is always a happy one.
Safeguard The Home: In 2 Timothy 1:14 the bible says to guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. The home is not ours but it is God’s, therefore we must safeguard the home with the spirit of God. Make your home a house of prayer, submit yourselves unto the Lord and He will direct your path and protect you from evil. Make sure the children pray every day and show the utmost respect for God. Teach them to fear the Lord. In Psalms 34:7 the bible says; The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
A true Christian home is a place where true love is cultivated and everyone abides in the laws of God and practice them day and night. In Psalm 128:1-4 the bible says Blessed is everyone that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.
