What is The Fabric of Your Life?
By: Nastassia Newell
It's everywhere! If you look
around, you'd be surprised to see that our everyday items are made with it.
It's in our transportation, homes and at our jobs. We're actually in it right
now, whether our clothing, shoes or socks, one thing that rarely escapes us is
fabric. We use it to cover us in the form of a garment and we use it to hold
our personal items; whether, our preference is a pocket book, wallet, back pack
or wristlet we all use and come into contact with fabric in some way. However,
not all fabric is created equal. The fabric is usually classified under two
categories, synthetic or natural. Synthetic fabrics are man-made fabrics that
are chemically processed through a process called polymerization and if you
used a magnifying glass the threading would appear as plastic. They are usually
cost efficient and retain their shape well, however, they don't allow your
skin to breath, can cause skin irritation and can become uncomfortable. In
contrast, natural fibers are plant or animal-based fibers and are breathable,
absorbent, soft, strong, easy to care for and comfortable. It’s definitely, the
healthy, conscientious way to go when choosing our garments.
However, the salvific
questions are, what is the fabric of your life and who is your tailor? In Genesis 3:7, the
Holy Bible says, "And the eyes of
them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig
leaves together and made themselves aprons." Adam and Eve in their
disobedient state, although using natural fabric, "fig leaves",
became their own tailors. Unaware of how to calculate their physical dimensions
and sincere heart condition they unskillfully sewed together a garment that
would deteriorate them physically and also testified of their fallen state. God
displeased and saddened with their disobedience, re-clothed them in Genesis 3:21, "Unto Adam and also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of
skin and clothed them."
Since the fall of man, God has been seeking to
re-clothe us with His righteousness. In Revelation
19:8, the bible states, "And to
her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for
the fine linen is the righteousness of the saints". The saints are
those that will wear these garments because their lives are in harmony with
Christ. When examined by God in judgement with something greater than a man-made
magnifying glass. Instead, with the creator’s eyes, who sees beyond what man
sees, who reads the very intents and motives of the heart. Reviews the fabric
of the saints lives and does not find scarlet but, see's Christ's character
perfectly duplicated in His saints. God wants to clothe us with His righteousness,
which begins in our hearts as we behold his sacrifice. "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we
may be made the righteousness of God in him".
God's commandments are righteousness. (Psalm 119:172) By spending daily quality
time in prayer, beholding Christ sacrifice through reading God's word we will
become changed into Christ righteousness and fitted to wear that fine linen
robe tailored by Christ. "With open
face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same
image from glory to glory", (2
Corinthians 3:18). May God help us as we seek to be clothed in His
righteousness.
Praise God Sis. Alexis!
