As a Christian, I have always been grateful for the faith I have in Christ. I often wonder how individuals can maneuver daily life in this crazy world without Christ. See, I was raised in a Christian family, and though I have strayed in the past, I never stopped believing in God. I always knew that God was sufficient, but that knowledge was challenged by COVID -19. As a Registered Nurse, I was rocketed to the "front line" in the fight against this disease. This pandemic is wreaking havoc on our communities and families. It has taken many lives, and as hard as it is to think about, many of these individuals have gone down in Christ-less graves. We know so little about this virus, it seemed like they were constantly diagnosing or inventing new symptoms and suggested treatments. At the beginning of eac

State of Emergency                                                                                                   Photo Credit: www.pexels.com By: Bintu St Jean April 16, 2020 · 3 min read Whenever there is a worldwide pandemic, there is a worldwide fear. Worldwide, not just among non-believers but in God’s believers. The church is confronted with a health crisis and a crisis of faith. Whenever there is a state of emergency, people will do things they will not usually do to save themselves. A person who would not regularly wash their hands throughout the day, is now washing their hands every moment and chance they get. People who usually do not watch the news, are glued to the T.V and watching for notifications on their phones for updates. People who could care less , care more because they want to live. A man will do, whatever you tell him to do, even if he has never done it, to save his life. “For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cheri

Heaven on Earth

What Is Heaven?   By: Stephania Nerestant Most people have thought of a place of peace, a place of rest, a place beautiful and sublime; Utopia. And very often we separate Heaven from Earth. We see Heaven as the place of God's dwelling and Earth as our dwelling place, two different places. However, we encounter these two very different places in The Garden of Eden. The garden was certainly a beautiful place, but I believe the beauty of the garden rested upon the fact that God would come there to communicate with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:8). We can confidently conclude, that heaven is wherever God dwells. God is omnipresent, that is, He can be in multiple places at once (Psalm 139:7-8, Jeremiah 23:23-24). Imagine yourself in a beautiful place where God does not reign, it would not be long until chaos ensued.   "....heaven is wherever God dwells" In Heaven, there is justice and judgement. Heaven thus reflects the goodness of God.

Diva or Delicately Comely?

Image
By: Nastassia Newell As the lights become dim and the runway edge lighting comes on, she can be seen walking down the catwalk in a swift predatory sway. She seemingly exudes confidence; her attire is from top designers and she is modeling their latest collections. Though fashion week endures only for the week, the outfits showcased on the catwalk will set the year’s trends for women worldwide. A common term used to describe her is ‘diva’. A diva is defined as a “self-important person who is temperamental and difficult to please”. A striking contrast to the woman described in  1 Timothy 2:9,”  Paul is impressed by the Holy Spirit to admonish women and he says ,  “in like manner also, that woman adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety”.  Paul further completes this verse by admonishing women as to what should be avoided,  “not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array ”. This woman may seem at surface glance to be timid, unexciting and pla

The Birth of A Missionary

Image
By: Ki'moy Smith It has always been my dream to become an Obstetrician-Gynecologist; the birth of a child always fascinated me. Imagine helping one of God’s creations to come into this world, beautiful isn’t it? But with everything I was learning I knew devoting my time to rigorous worldly studies and prolonged university attendance wasn’t what God wanted for me. I would have no time to hear his voice, if my focus was this worldly achievement. While watching a documentary on a midwife based in Africa, I realized my calling. She would go to remote areas where healthcare was an unknown word and with love and dedication attended to pregnant mothers. “God is this what you’re calling me to do? Are you calling me to bring your message to the world while helping the physical needs? Okay I’m in!!!” “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” (Isaiah 6:8) I have a deep love for bab

A Vow And a Vote of Thanks

Power of Prayer - A Series By Allana Austin Two - Part Two: A vow and a vote of thanks   1 Samuel 2: 1-10 Hannah’s gratitude Do you remember me? “I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord.” Many times I came to you weeping, my countenance extremely sad and my frame weak, but “For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of Him.” [1 Samuel 1:25 – 26] Now I stand before you in jubilance, “My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.” [1 Samuel 2:1] You have raised my position in the eyes of my family, and my community. In giving me this child, you have removed reproach from me, and increased my wealth. Hannah could not have borne or birthed this child, Samuel, if she was not perseverant in her prayers. And now she had returned unto the Lord to express heartfelt gratitude! Prayer of Imprecation “And she vowed a vow and said, O LORD of h
